A joint sketching activity with the Santa Cruz/Monterey Bay Urban Sketchers and Edinburgh (Scotland) Urban Sketchers to compare architectural and city elements between the two locations.
How to Participate
- An architectural or city element (Door, Window, Mailbox, Fire Hydrant, etc) will be posted each week in the Facebook group pages for both the Santa Cruz/Monterey Bay Urban Sketchers and the Edinburgh Urban Sketchers.
- Participating sketchers will draw the architectural element and post their sketch in their local facebook group page.
- Santa Cruz sketchers will post in the SC/MB Urban Sketchers FB Group page

- All sketchers will follow the Urban Sketching Manifesto and submit drawings based on direct observation (not photos).
- Sketchers will indicate the general location of the sketch. This doesn't need to be an exact address. Post the general location or neighborhood so that we have a sense for where it was drawn. For example:
Architecture Study: Downtown Santa Cruz, CaliforniaArchitecture Study: Stockbridge, Edinburgh
- Sketchers from the Santa Cruz/Monterey Bay Urban Sketchers group will join the Edinburgh Urban Sketchers group so that they can see what the Scottish sketchers have posted.

- We will run the study through the winter.
- IF POSTING ON INSTAGRAM: Please use the hashtag #CA_EDI_USkArchitectureStudy
FAQ
Why Santa Cruz/Monterey Bay and Edinburgh/Scotland?
Because they are both gorgeous locations with very diverse architecture! The organizer lived in Edinburgh for 3 years and fell madly in love with Scotland and Edinburgh. She now lives in Aptos, California and it seemed like a fun exercise to compare the architectural features of the two areas. Can I participate if I'm not living in either location but I belong to one of the groups?
Yes! The more the merrier! But please ONLY post in your primary group. So if you live in San Francisco and you would like to participate, then post in the Santa Cruz/Monterey Bay Urban Sketchers Facebook group page. It's ok if your drawings are done in SF, but you need to post in the Santa Cruz/Monterey Bay page so that everyone can see your sketch. In your comment, please indicate your location using the format detailed above (e.g. Architecture Study: Nob Hill, San Francisco). You will also need to join the Edinburgh Urban Sketchers group so that you can see their postings, but do not post in their group.
Do I need to post in both groups?
No, please ONLY post in your local group.Should sketches only be of building exteriors?
No, they can be both interior or exterior. Our architecture is different both inside and outside of buildings. For example, you sketch a window from either the inside or the outside! Just remember that we want to share our unique architectural features so try to pick something that will be fun to share.
Can I post more than one sketch per week (of the same or previous element theme)?
Yes, post as many times as you would like. What if I join in late?
Jump in any time! Every week's theme element will be posted on the two Facebook pages AND on this page. Feel free to submit elements from previous weeks.Architectural Theme-Of-The-Week:
